Contemporary Danish art enjoys excellent conditions at the moment, and artists such as John Kørner and Tal R. broke previous price records at this auction. Michael Kvium, however, topped them all, breaking two world records. The paintings belong to Kvium’s series of characteristically naked and androgynous figures, all wearing swim caps, confronting us with the unpleasant and ugly side of life. The highest price result was achieved by the painting “Double Me” from 1994, sold at a hammer price of DKK 700,000.
