Arndt & Partner has the honour to announce the participations of our gallery artists Sophie Calle and Nedko Solakov at the 52nd Venice Biennale taking place from 10 June through 21 November 2007.
Sophie Calle is representing France at the French Pavilion with her new work Take care of yourself consisting of a series of video and photo-portraits. The starting point for this project was an episode from her personal life – a relationship broken up by email. Calle asked 107 women, whom she had chosen according to their line of work – some famous, some not – to interpret the letter in their professional capacity. Sophie Calle’s book titled Take care of yourself will be published on 1 June 2007 accompanying the exhibition.
Furthermore, Sophie Calle as well as Nedko Solakov are participating in the group show Think with the Senses – Feel with the Mind. Art in the Present Tense curated by Robert Storr at the Arsenale and the Italian Pavilion at the Giardini.
Nedko Solakov’s installation Discussion (Property), 2007, deals with a decade-long dispute between Russia and Bulgaria. The artist’s closer examination of this dispute, which seems to be a relict from the socialist era, was provoked by Russia’s claim that Bulgaria’s continued manufacturing and selling of the AK-47 assault rifle was illegal.
His work is also included in a special issue of Printed Project, which will be launched at the Irish Pavilion on 7 June 2007.
